I once visited Kew Gardens. Two things stood out: the utterly enormous lily pads in the hot house ponds, and that Concord flew directly over our picnic. I lay and watched it in awe. I’ve always hankered after a garden with a pond but I have to make do for now with the hot house and out door ponds and lily pads at the Auckland Wintergardens and Domain. Another memory, holding my Nana’s hand under a tree at the Domain while Dad went to get the car (in 1968). One of my few memories of her. It poured.
