This image exemplifies the ‘botanically-rooted’ label. Whilst the leaves and stalks are undoubtedly just that, the shadows for a botanical painting got lost on their way home. I enjoyed taking all the watercolour greens I had mixed, and then some more when those ran out, and seeing what took shape: whether all of those greens together would cohere. To my eye, they do, and they remind me of lying on the grass under a tree and seeing all the leafy colours above in a whole new way.
